CSI Bain School, located on Ormes Road in Kilpauk, Chennai, was established in 1929 by Miss E.M. Bain, a missionary of the Church of Scotland Mission. Initially, the school catered primarily to boys in the Nursery and Primary age groups. Following Miss Bain’s tenure, Miss Calder, another Scottish missionary, nurtured the institution from 1947 to 1949. Subsequently, Miss Jessie Moses took charge and played a pivotal role in the school’s development.
Under Miss Moses’s leadership, the school underwent significant transformations. In 1963, it was upgraded to a Matriculation school, and by 1978, it achieved the status of a Higher Secondary institution. These advancements were a testament to Miss Moses’s dedication and vision for the school’s growth.
The school’s motto, “Founded on Rock,” signifies its foundation in Jesus Christ, guiding its mission to provide an education that nurtures both academic and moral development. This commitment encourages students to reflect on life’s profound questions and understand the essence of being human.
Today, CSI Bain School continues to uphold its legacy of excellence in education. It offers a comprehensive curriculum from LKG to Class 12, affiliated with both the ICSE and State Boards. The institution remains under the management of the Church of South India’s Higher Education division, ensuring that the values of character development and holistic education continue to be at the forefront of its mission .
Over the decades, CSI Bain School has cultivated a strong alumni network, many of whom have gone on to make significant contributions in fields such as medicine, education, engineering, and public service. The school celebrates its rich heritage through annual events, cultural programs, and alumni reunions, fostering a deep sense of community and continuity. Its blend of tradition, discipline, and modern educational practices continues to shape students into responsible, compassionate citizens equipped for the challenges of the future.
